A Big Game party calls for good friends, an exciting game, and delicious food. Appetizers and finger foods are common items to put on your menu because they are quick and easy to eat during the excitement of the game. Whether you're hosting a potluck party or taking on the cooking yourself, here are four tasty recipes bound to be a hit at your party.
- 2 ¼ cups flour
- ¾ cup shortening
- Ice water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 dozen cocktail hot dogs (sliced)
Directions: Mix flour and salt together. Cut in shortening and sprinkle little drops of ice water into the mixture until it holds together. Chill the dough, then roll out to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into 2 inch by 2 inch squares. Place hot dogs on dough and fold dough around them. Place them on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes at 400 degrees.
- Tortilla chips
- ½ cups taco sauce
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Other optional toppings: jalapenos, chicken, beef, etc.
Directions: Place a later of tortilla chips on a large plate. Pour taco sauce over the chips and sprinkle with cheese and other toppings (customize a couple plates of nachos for guests with different tastes - ie veggie only, super spicy, etc). Add another layer of chips and repeat. Microwave on high for 1 ½ minutes, until cheese is melted.
Barbecue Teriyaki Chicken Drumsticks
- 24 small chicken drumsticks
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup barbecue sauce
- ½ cup Kikkoman teriyaki sauce
- Italian seasoning (enough to taste)
Directions: Place drumsticks in a crock pot and season with Italian seasoning. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the chicken and cook for 2 hours on low heat. Then, mix the barbecue sauce and water in a bowl and pour over the chicken once it is done cooking. Cover and continue to cook on low heat for another 4 hours.
- 14 hard-boiled eggs
- 4 tbs. mayonnaise
- 2 tsp. mustard
- Salt and pepper
- 12 pimiento stuffed olives
- Paprika and parsley flakes (optional)
Directions: Cut the hard cooked eggs in half lengthwise. Scoop the yolks out and pour them into a small bowl. Blend with the other ingredients, then scoop the mixture back into the egg white halves. Lightly sprinkle them with paprika and parsley flakes. Refrigerate until serving.
Party Tip: Set up your delicious appetizers at various tables at your party so it's buffet style. Make sure your food tables are out of the way of the game so guests don't need to walk in front of the TV to get to the food. Also, to keep guests out of the kitchen, set up a large cooler full of cold soda, beer, and water for guests in your living room so they don’t have to miss a second of the game!
