Door Decorations for Halloween

Want to scare your trick-or-treaters the moment they get to your door? This year, try some Halloween door decorations. Homemade Halloween door decorations are quick ways to add a little flair to your home for Halloween. These decorations add instant elements of fright!

If you are in need of some Halloween door decoration ideas, look at the list below:

  • Pumpkins: Pumpkins are classic door decorations for Halloween. Simply carve a few pumpkins, place mini candles in them and put them out on your doorstep. These jack-o-lanterns are also great because they are so fun to make!
  • Witches’ brooms: Hang brooms over your door. This may seem strange, but it is actually a simple way to add Halloween door decor to your home. Most people won’t want to nail brooms into their doors. Instead, just layer heavy-duty tape around the top and the bottom of the brooms.
  • Door handle decorations: Scare guests as they try to enter the house and create creepy Halloween door decor. Use cobwebs or plastic spiders and bugs and drape them over and around the door handle.
  • Shadowy figures: You can create a shadowy Halloween door decoration with some poster board, flashlights and a wall. The best kind of light to use for this is a lantern or one that has a handle that can be used to prop it up, but any flashlight will do. For these door decorations, first use the poster board to cut out shapes like pumpkins and cats. Next, position the poster so that it sits between the light and the wall. It should be positioned relatively close to the light, so that when the light is turned on, the shape appears to be stretched out along the wall. You’ll likely have to experiment with this a little to get it right. If you need to prop up the poster, use another piece of poster board or some books to do so. You can also try taping it to the light.
  • Scarecrow: Another cute door decoration is a scarecrow. If you already have one, move it next to your door. Otherwise, make a scarecrow with some old clothes, a broom and some hay.
  • Baskets, caskets and cauldrons: If you’re going to be out during trick-or-treating time, it’s a good idea to put plastic baskets, caskets or cauldrons full of candy outside your doorstep. This way, you’ll show people that you’re still a part of the Halloween spirit! These will also serve as great decorations for your door.
