Over the Rainbow Baby Shower

Everyone knows that famous song from The Wizard of Oz: "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." It actually makes a precious theme for baby shower and can be quite easy to pull together. To create an Over the Rainbow baby shower, seek inspiration from all of the colors in the rainbow.

  • Food & Presentation: Create a colorful snack buffet for guests. Serve the food in clear bowls and vases of varying sizes. Choose foods that are clearly one color. For example, red strawberries, orange carrot sticks, yellow bread sticks, green salad, blueberries, and eggplant. Make the table more whimsical by adding candy like red twizzlers, colorful rainbow candy canes, bright old-fashioned lollipops, and cotton candy!
  • Centerpiece: For the rainbow baby shower, make a very special diaper cake centerpiece. For each layer of the diaper cake, use a different rainbow color ribbon, starting with red and working your way up (or vice versa).
  • Activity: Pre-print cards that say "Somewhere over the rainbow _________" and let guests fill in a message to the expecting parents or to the baby. It's a nice reminder of the shower and gives the guests an opportunity to leave a special message or advice.
  • Favors: Put together rainbow candle sets for guests to take home as favors. Buy votive candles in bulk in several colors. Then, mix up the colors so each guest gets a small package to take home that contains a box with four different colors.
