Wizard of Oz Birthday

Looking for a fun and unique party theme? A Wizard of Oz birthday party is the perfect theme to make the occasion memorable for all who attend. There are many terrific Wizard of Oz party ideas that you can incorporate into your theme. Here are some fantastic ideas to get you started:

  • Invitations: Send themed Wizard of Oz invitations to your guests to let them know all of the important details of your party. One idea is to design your invitation with the Emerald City in the background (for example, you can use a Punchbowl photo design to upload a photo of the Emerald City). Then, include something on the Wizard of Oz invitation like “Follow us down the yellow brick road to Aly’s birthday party!” or “Ballons, candles, and cake, oh my! Jason is turning five!”
  • Decorations: There are a variety of party decorations that can help you create a Wizard of Oz birthday party scene. Use a large piece of yellow fabric or paper to create a yellow brick road for your guests to walk down as they arrive to the party. If you have a driveway or front walkway that people can walk down to get to your front door, use chalk to draw yellow bricks on the pavement. Other decorating idea for your Wizard of Oz party is to use large pieces of construction paper to create a hot air balloon, rainbow, and Emerald City. This is even a great activity to do with your son or daughter before the party. Once the decorations are made, hang them from the walls to set the scene for your Wizard of Oz party. Of course, you can also hang up a “Happy birthday” banner, balloons, and streamers as well.
  • Costumes: Another festive Wizard of Oz party idea is to get different costumes for the kids to dress up in during the party. If it is your daughter’s birthday party, get her a special pair of ruby red slippers to wear during the party. If you are hosting a birthday party for your son, a tin hat like the Tin Man or a costume like the Scarecrow would be perfect for him to wear. Other costume ideas are a pink dress for Glenda, a witch hat for the Wicked Witch of the West, or wings for the flying monkeys. Let the kids pick and choose the costumes that they want to wear during the party.
  • Cake: To decorate your Wizard of Oz birthday cake, first bake a cake in a 9 x 13 pan following the directions on the cake box. Then, add a few drops of green food coloring to a bowl of vanilla icing to dye it green, then frost the entire cake. Next, add a few drops of yellow food coloring to dye another bowl of vanilla icing. Pipe the yellow icing onto the cake into the shape of a twisting yellow brick road. At the end of the road, put a castle figurine to look like the Emerald City. Another idea is to place small figurines of Wizard of Oz characters walking down the yellow brick road.
