Day 15: Surprise a Special Kid
Day 15 of our 25-day challenge is an opportunity to do something special for a kid in your life – a niece, a nephew, a child in your community, a friend’s kid, or your very own! Regardless of who you pick, today’s assignment is sure to delight and warm little hearts this holiday season.
Radio/TV personality and mom of two, Jessica Hall is our special co-host for today's challenge. Her family plans to embrace the season of giving as part of this assignment. "This year we are planning a new tradition with our children," says Jessica. "We are sponsoring a family in need through our church to give them a great Christmas. My kids will get the family kids' wish lists and go shopping for them. My husband and I will get food and all the family needs to make Christmas morning the best for a deserving family in need this holiday season."

There is nothing quite like the joy on a child’s face when they experience the magic of the holiday season. Today, surprise a special kid in your life. Spread some holiday cheer and create meaningful memories with a little one through a shared experience, a small gift, or sponsorship.
If you plan to surprise a kid you know personally, think about who you’d like to surprise. This person doesn’t need to live nearby; in fact, it might be extra special if the recipient is someone you don’t see that often. Whether you’re their aunt, uncle, neighbor, family friend, or parent, know that whomever you pick is sure to be grateful that you thought of them.
Once you choose a recipient, brainstorm some simple ways to surprise them. Check out the ideas below for inspiration.
- Take them on a “coffee” date. This is the perfect idea for a tween, teen, or little one who loves to feel grown up. Treat them to a hot chocolate and baked good of their choice, and enjoy a nice chat.
- Bake together. Invite your special someone to your kitchen or head to their home with ingredients to make their favorite cookie, cupcake, or brownie. It doesn’t have to be fancy! No matter what you choose to make, your kiddo will remember and appreciate the time you spent together.
- Read a book over FaceTime. For those that don’t live close, this is a wonderful opportunity to bond over a beloved book via a video call. Ask your special kid what their favorite book is, purchase it or borrow it from your local library, and find a time to connect with your special someone. They can read along with their own copy or just listen and enjoy!
- Send an unexpected treat. A small, out-of-the-blue gift is another fun way to bring joy to your special kid’s life. Whether it’s a holiday-themed puzzle or book, a box filled with favorite snacks and candy, or arts and crafts supplies, it’s sure to brighten their day!
Whether it's a small gift, a shared experience, or a generous sponsorship, kids will look back fondly on this surprise years from now.

And that concludes Week 3 of our 25-day challenge! On Monday, we’ll kick off the week with an assignment that is all about gratitude. Until then, have a wonderful weekend.
