For materials, you will need a piece of wood, sheet of 1 inch thick Styrofoam, fabric, a hot glue gun, buttons, and various colors of ribbon. Cut the wood into the shape that you want the message board. Then, cover the wood with the sheet of Styrofoam and staple it into place. Then, cover the entire board with the fabric and staple it into place. Be sure to pull the fabric tight to make it smooth on one side of the board and staple it on the other side. The smooth side without any visible staples will be the front of your message board. The best technique to make a functional message board is to crisscross the ribbon from corner to corner of the board. This should make a grid pattern across your board. Where the ribbons cross, glue or sew a button down to hold the ribbon in place. Make sure that the ribbons are tight across the board so that they will securely hold notes and pictures in place!

  • Potpourri Bag: This is a fantastic homemade Mother’s Day gift idea! To make this you will need a piece of fabric, a piece of felt, scissors, ribbon, hot glue gun, and scented potpourri. Cut a 4 inch by 6 inch rectangle from the piece of felt. Place potpourri in the middle of the rectangle and then fold it in half. Use the hot glue gun to glue the edges of the felt to enclose the potpourri. Then, cut a 6 inch square out of the fabric. Place the folded felt in the center of the fabric. Next, pick up the four corners of the fabric to make a small bag and then tie it off with a piece of ribbon. Present this cute potpourri bag to your mother on Mother’s Day!
